The sound of the flute,

the wind through the pines,

the plucked string of the koto,

the songs and the dances:

all myriad voices of the dharma.



Each of the temples on the 88 Temple Pilgrimage of Shikoku has it's own goeika, or pilgrim's hymn. Many of these goeika are played on shakuhachi.

This one, which belongs to the Jin-Ne-In Temple, is both particularly beautiful and evocative of the shakuhachi.
