20 February 2008 Apologies for light posting*

My daughter Zoe, precocious 9-month old that she is, has mastered the art of generating a fever just barely high enough to keep her home from daycare to play with me, but not high enough to actually make her feel bad. This new skill, combined with lots of work, has been keeping a loving-but-frazzled daddy too busy to play with photos.

(*Don’t you like the conceit that my lack of posting actually puts you all out enough to require an apology?)

Zak, you have a typo the last sentence of the first paragraph of your post, either missing a “t” on “but” or a hyphen instead of a space right after. Which is it? :-)

  2. Zachary says:

    Second hyphen dutifully added. :)

Hope she feels better soon. I always enjoy your posts, so I for one look forward to more.

By the way, I wanted to ask you about your wordpress images vs enlargements. I noticed your small images are the right size for the page and large images are larger. Are you using a plugin or something to automate that, or just exporting a small and large image, and then linking them together each time?

just wanted to break the silence to assure you that there ARE more than 2 readers of your blog. I accidentally came across you via RLP.

No, I just use the built-in functionality on the Write page. I upload the large version, and it creates the small version for me automatically. Unfortunately whatever process it uses doesn’t seem to be great. I think I could get better small versions by exporting them directly from Aperture, but I’m way too lazy for that.

Huh… your pictures on the blog page are actual thumbails though… they are not the large version scaled down. I wonder if I’m just not using wordpress right.

What I’m referring to specifically is that your images on the blog pages are name.thumbnail.jpg i’m wondering where these sized thumbnails came from. My version of Wordpress, at least, does not make these. Instead it displays the full size images on the post, or a text title. My only option is to edit each one to have a smaller display size, which doesn’t save a .thumbnail but just changes the size tags… confusing.

I will stop spamming your blog with comments now. I figured it out. Wordpress just couldn’t handle my huge images and so disabled the thumbnail option on them.

Yeah, you can see that even my “full sized” versions are not really full size. I figure there’s no reason to put the whole thing up there.
