18 October 2007 More Green Bokeh
Yesterday I wrote a little about bokeh. Here are two more photos from the same set that I like, followed by one more of Genbo taken shortly thereafter that also illustrates the 70-200′s nice bokeh.
I’m in the process of selling the lens to help pay for a new flute, but looking at these photos makes me realize I’ll miss it. Ah well, it’s a good thing they make a lot of these things (as opposed to shakuhachi, which are inherently one-of-a-kind).

Is this the questionable 70-200 with the potential CA issues? Or have I gotten confused again? I’m probably going to pick up the sigma 50-150 for nikon soon. It’s got the 2.8 speed and is two inches shorter and half the weight of the 70-200. It doesn’t have VR but the size and weight difference is worth it to me. It’s so much smaller because it’s made for DX sensor size.

Jeffrey and I were joking about CA on an 84/1.4 I sold him, but only because this is unavoidable. Maybe this is what you are thinking of.
I hear good things about the Sigma. Let me know what you think of it.

One word of advice on the Sigma, Jon: pony up the few bucks for a Nikon brand back-cap (the one you put on when the lens is not mounted to the camera). I don’t think I could design a back-cap as poorly as the Sigma is designed even if I were trying to be as user-unfriendly as possible. It really is the zenith of bad design.
Of course, if you’d prefer to be bald, keep the Sigma back-cap and soon you’ll be tearing your hair out…..

Haha… good advice Jeffrey, I will certainly do that. I actually have two nikon back caps now though so I will probably just use those (I always keep one lens on the camera) I’m excited for the 50-150 but I won’t be getting it until Christmas due to a deal I made with my fiancee ;) Patience… must have patience… I really cannot wait. The 18-200 I have is a lot of fun but I love the idea of 2.8 speed. I was gung ho about the 70-200 but secretly afraid to carry such a huge lens when I learned about the 50-150 and I think it may be worth the tradeoff. At least the sigma has fast focus which is a step above the 80-200.
