A temple roof and an incredibly ugly building. Juxtapositions like this are easy to find in Kyoto, actually.

Easy to find them? Heck, half my time spent as a photographer in Kyoto is trying to not find them. I’ve made it an art to take a picture of something while just barely cutting out the slew of phone lines, utility poles, and other crap from the frame. Often, it’s just not possible, so I have to appeal to the Higher Authority (Photoshop) for help.

I think if you incorporate them artfully the phone lines etc. can add to an image. After all, they’re there, and trying to pretend they’re not is trying to capture something that no longer exists, in which case you should just go into painting.
