6 September 2007 Birthdays and rainbows
Yesterday was Maki’s 3Xth birthday, so we went out to dinner at a fantastic German restaurant. Why is there a fantastic German restaurant in the outskirts of Kyoto, you may well ask. It’s because Otsu has a sister city relationship with some town in Germany, and part of the deal is they supply us with good German beer, sausage, and lamb. Hmm, lamb. Reason enough not to be a vegetarian.
Anyway, on the way to the restaurant we saw a fantastic double rainbow. We’ve been having some weird meteorological occurrences because of a typhoon that nearly missed us and slammed obligingly into Tokyo instead, so we were treated to a vivid double-rainbow against a red sunset sky. Unlike another Kyoto photoblogger, I was lucky enough to have a camera in hand and ready. I don’t recommend taking pictures while driving, but that’s how I took the first one.
These two are from the parking lot of the restaurant. The large building is basically the only nice hotel near where we live. It’s right on the lake, though, and has fabulous views.
